Crestview Running Club (CRC) is an after school Running Club with almost 100 members from first through fifth grade that run between one and three miles every Wednesday afternoon. This is the first year of the CRC and they will be wrapping up their season this week.
Felicia Cortez, third grade teacher at Crestview, founded the Crestview Running Club to help promote fitness and for all our students. She wanted students to have something, besides academics, that they can enjoy and take pride in.
Each month, Cortez sends out a newsletter to the CRC members listing upcoming local races. A while back they received information about a contest with the Lubbock Marathon to have schools participate. The club enjoys competition, so they encouraged as many members as possible to join the race.
CRC had about a dozen kids decide to join the race. Some participated in the 5k and some did the 1-mile fun run. For many of the students who ran the 5k, it was their first race ever!
"It was my first race, and I was so excited!" says third grader and CRC member Griffin LaDuke who ran who first 5k race.
"CRC has been such a fun blessing this year! I'm so proud of each runner for taking an interest in promoting fitness and fun,” said Cortez.
