Crestview Elementary School

Crestview Students hear from Community Experts

This week the students listened to presentations from police experts, the Crestview campus police officer and three Lubbock Police Department officers:

- Officer Baughcum, Frenship ISD officer - taught about school safety

- Detective Derick Smith - introduced steps for internet safety

- Forensic investigator, Erin Smith - taught about fingerprints

- Corporal Cook and his canine partner, Renzo - demonstrated how a K-9 team works

Earlier in the school year students heard from other presenters such as a dental hygienist, a plant and soil scientist, a nurse, a veterinarian, a grocer, a firefighter, a dietician/food services director, a metal fabricator, and a web/game developer. All guest presenters are current or previous parents of Crestview students.

Students will visit Peoples Bank this week and get to see the jobs there and learn more about financial topics. This trip will also help students with money and other financial skills in first grade math and social studies. Children will finish up by writing important facts about each job.

On Earth Day, they will be having a guest from Jarvis Metals, who will tell them about recycling metals to help Earth conserve its resources. As Jarvis Metals is a business that is locally owned and established to meet a need for our community, students will also learn about entrepreneurship.

Thank you to our guest speakers for your continued support in teaching our little Tigers!
