Frenship ISD Goes Blue to Shine Awareness on Child Abuse Prevention

The month of April is Child Abuse Prevention month, but April 14 is Texas Go Blue Day where everyone is encouraged to wear blue to help spread awareness about child abuse prevention.

Child Abuse Prevention is a priority for Frenship ISD. Across the district, Frenship strives to spread awareness about this issue to ensure the safety and well-being of our families, by partnering with the community and connecting our families with resources to help.

“It is important to recognize the signs of possible child abuse and neglect because we need to be able to ensure the safety of every child so that they can learn and grow,” said Craig Thompson, Director of Counseling for Frenship ISD. “Supporting our Frenship students and families is a top priority, and we want to be able to best support anyone who may be struggling by helping them connect to the appropriate resources.”

As mandated reporters, every Frenship ISD staff member receives yearly training on child abuse and neglect. The campus counselors work to connect families to the resources that will provide support to the families. The district counseling webpage provides important information to parents on identification and prevention of child abuse.

Go Blue Day is a time to help students understand that if they witness or experience abusive behaviors from adults in their lives, school is a safe place with caring adults that are willing to invest in them and will make every effort to provide safety for them.

The Frenship ISD counselor webpage has many resources related to child abuse prevention and how to report abuse. It also has information on how to recognize the signs of abuse. There is information available to parents about free parenting classes in our area, parenting tips, and many other articles for resources. The campus counselors are on the front lines at campuses to provide support to families.
